Learn more about the benefits of microfiber leather and why Two Little Feet uses them in our Little Blue Lamb Kids Shoes.
Microfiber leather is a type of synthetic leather, made from a combination of microfiber non-woven fabric coated with a layer of high performance PU (polyurethane) resins.
In the industry, microfiber leather is considered the latest version and highest quality of synthetic leather. Microfiber leather is a significant upgrade from the original PU leather, which is traditional fabric coated with polyurethane resin.
What are the properties of microfiber leather?
- Looks and feels like leather
- Anti-bacteria and anti-odour
Why is microfiber leather suitable for making footwear?
While synthetic leather were once considered not suitable for high quality shoes, microfiber leather has changed how shoes are made.
Microfiber leather is designed to hold up against weather conditions and the wear and tear of walking and running over an extended period of time.
They can retain their form very well, and thus are usually very durable if cared for properly. They're also more water-resistant and lighter than real leather, making them great for long wear and outdoor activities.
Be more environmental-friendly with microfiber leather
Considered a vegan leather by PETA, synthetic leather has less than half the impact on the environment as animal-derived leather. Leather that comes from animals is said to be more than twice as harmful to the environment as polyurethane.
At Little Blue Lamb, we started out using real leather for making our children shoes. However, turning animal skin into leather involves the use of chemicals and heavy metals. This makes the leather product itself unsafe for users if the process is not up to standard. To ensure a more sustainable production process without compromising our goal of providing quality footwear for children, we decided to switch to using only microfiber leather.
Most Little Blue Lamb children shoes are made with a microfiber leather upper, lined with textile or microfiber fabric, and fitted with a rubber outsole for extra flexibility and slip protection.
